Do we really need to buy a pushchair, car seat or folding cot for a few days' use per year?
A legacy of the industrial revolution, our current economic model is based on a linear value chain: extracting resources, using them to manufacture products, selling them, consuming them and then throwing them away. We are seeing how strained this model is becoming as resources become scarcer and the volume of waste explodes.
Today, another economic model is emerging, one that is circular rather than linear. A new economy has been born: the functional economy, which consists of selling the use of a product rather than the product itself. Today, 77% of French people say they prefer to use a product rather than own it. For a one-off need or a limited period of time, we believe that renting baby equipment is an excellent solution, whether it be a pushchair, car seat or travel cot.
Why are we consuming better and cheaper?
• For economic reasons: it is often cheaper to hire a baby product for a few days than to buy it.
• For practical reasons: why clutter up your home with a car seat or pushchair that you only use a few days a year?
• For environmental reasons: renting means sharing baby equipment with others, which avoids wasting raw materials.
If you live in a big city and own a car, do you think it makes sense to pay for insurance, fines, a parking space and maintenance at the garage? What matters is how you use it! In this case, it is obviously much more advantageous to occasionally hire a spacious car that can accommodate the whole family rather than buying one!
